NO.1 - Elderly Protection

Civil servants enjoy long-term pensions (or annual contributions), and other benefits. Employees of enterprises and public utility institutions enjoy mandatory provident funds or annual contributions. The "Higher Old Age Living Allowance" launched by the Hong Kong SAR government in June 2018 for elderly people aged 65 and above has become a social security allowance received by most elderly people over 65 years old, currently covering about 540,000 seniors aged 65 or above.

NO.2 - Unemployment Protection

Hong Kong places great importance on the protection of labor rights. From 1984 to 1993, the Hong Kong government formulated a total of 119 labor laws. Employees mainly enjoy long service payments or severance pay, protection against unpaid wages in bankruptcy, and some employees enjoy provident funds or annual contributions, which can be claimed upon dismissal; government civil servants can also receive annual contributions when dismissed.

NO.3 - Work Injury Protection

In 1997, Hong Kong formulated and revised several labor laws, among which the Employees' Compensation Ordinance is one of the most important labor laws established in the 1950s and has undergone multiple revisions. Based on this law, a work injury protection system with Hong Kong characteristics has been formed, namely the employer's liability system, where employees mainly enjoy compensation for work-related death, disability, and occupational diseases.

NO.4 - Medical Protection

Hong Kong's medical service system has gradually improved to become a "dual medical system" characterized by "government-led" and "market-assisted," consisting of a "two-tier" medical structure made up of public and private medical systems. Hong Kong residents mainly enjoy sick leave and medical allowances.

NO.5 - Maternity Protection

Female employees mainly enjoy maternity leave and maternity pay, and can also benefit from reductions in costs for prenatal check-ups, bed fees, and ultrasound fees.

NO.6 - Income Protection

Individuals or families with income below the standards set by the public assistance program can receive cash subsidies for public assistance, including basic assistance, long-term case assistance, elderly allowances, and disability allowances. In addition to annual adjustments according to established systems, the SAR government has also launched one-time measures multiple times to alleviate the pressure of inflation on social security beneficiaries.

NO.7 - Disaster Protection

Disaster victims can enjoy cash assistance and material aid, including funeral subsidies, death allowances, disability allowances, injury allowances, temporary assistance, provision of urgently needed food and necessary living supplies, and temporary housing.

NO.8 - Violence and Law Enforcement Casualty Protection

The purpose of this program is to provide financial assistance to individuals injured due to violent crimes or due to law enforcement officers using weapons in the course of their duties, or to the dependents of these individuals (such as victims who die from injuries). This program does not require contributions, and applicants do not need to undergo a financial status investigation.
