1. Low competition pressure and high admission rate
In mainland China, the admission rates for 985 and 211 universities vary significantly, with Beijing having the highest rate at 23.96% and Henan province the lowest at only 3.45%. Even Guangdong, the largest economy in the country, has an admission rate of just 5.03%. However, the admission rate for the Hong Kong DSE in 2022 was 40%, which is indeed very high compared to the mainland's college entrance examination. In other words, just by taking the DSE exam, there is a 50% chance of getting into a prestigious university.

2. Simple exam format
Hong Kong follows a four plus two model, with four core subjects and two electives. The four core subjects are Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics, and Liberal Studies, while students can choose any two subjects from 24 options including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and History for the electives. Generally, students will select four to five subjects for their results, and they can answer in Simplified Chinese. The knowledge points in the DSE curriculum overlap with those in the mainland college entrance examination by as much as 70%, but the overall difficulty is much lower than that of the college entrance examination, giving mainland students a certain advantage in science and mathematics exams.
