The recruitment plan of the Chinese University of Hong Kong in mainland China is divided into four categories: humanities, science, engineering, and business. The humanities category includes the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Law, and the Faculty of Social Sciences; the science category includes the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Science; the engineering category is the Faculty of Engineering; and the business category is the Faculty of Business.

Candidates for liberal arts and history can choose the humanities or business category during admission; candidates for science and engineering or comprehensive categories can choose one of the humanities, science, engineering, or business categories.

Gaokao scores: Mainland students are required to achieve scores above the admission control score line for the first batch of undergraduate programs in various provinces and cities, with individual subject scores generally reaching a passing level. Admission is based on the principle of score priority, selecting the best candidates without setting a preference level for major choices. In the case of tied scores in the Gaokao, priority will be given to students with higher scores in the English subject.

Gaokao English: The foreign language subject that candidates apply for must be English. The standard full score is calculated as 150 points, and self-funded students must achieve an English score of over 120 points; for scholarship applications, the English score must be over 130 points.
