Student ID

All universities in Hong Kong have their own student IDs, which are generally created for new students on the first day of enrollment through electronic photography. The student ID is then issued to the new students, followed by the activation of their student ID and password. The student ID serves different functions at various universities in Hong Kong, but it is primarily a proof of student identity and needs to be kept safe. Generally, the school's student ID is an electronic card, which serves as a pass for using various facilities at the school, such as libraries, computer rooms, etc. Those who do not hold a student ID, even if they are students, cannot use these facilities. Unlike schools in mainland China, student ID checks are very strict in Hong Kong. There was an instance where a student forgot their student ID in the dormitory and was not allowed to attend a computer class. Some schools, like CityU, have set the student ID as an electronic key card for entering the Hall (dormitory), with different student IDs corresponding to different Halls, and entry is not allowed at will. Additionally, the student ID can also be used to enjoy some discounts when shopping in Hong Kong (the benefits vary by school).
