When should planning for Hong Kong identity be done for children to participate in the DSE exam?
This can be divided into two situations. If the child's goal is to attend local universities in Hong Kong or overseas schools, having a Hong Kong identity is sufficient, and it is best to plan for the child's identity before high school.

If the child's goal is to take the DSE to enter universities in mainland China, then a Hong Kong permanent resident status is required, and planning for the Hong Kong identity should be done before the child reaches the fourth grade at the latest. In short, the more options available, the better; the earlier the planning, the better.

What subjects will be tested?
The Hong Kong DSE follows a four plus two model, with four core subjects and two elective subjects. The four core subjects are Chinese Language, Mathematics, English Language, and Liberal Studies, while the two elective subjects can be chosen from 24 options including Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, making a total of six subjects to be tested. Generally, four to five subjects are selected for application.

The most difficult subject in the DSE exam is English. To achieve a passing score in DSE English, it is roughly equivalent to an IELTS score of six.

Can simplified characters be used in the exam?
