Three Major Truths About Hong Kong's Quality Migrant Admission Scheme

1. The competitive talent applicants in the talent scheme
The highest score for the Hong Kong talent scheme is 245 points, and you can apply if you reach 80 points. At first glance, the application conditions for the talent scheme do not seem high, and many people easily meet the standards. However, the application for the talent scheme is very competitive now, and the overall qualifications of the applicants are generally very excellent, with an increasing number of applicants scoring above 120 points. There are many applicants from prestigious schools, well-known companies, with high degrees, various patents, awards, or certificates; outstanding talents are everywhere. For many applicants scoring between 80-100 points, after evaluation, I find that they do not have obvious advantages in their applications, and I would advise them against applying.

2. Importance of the applicant's work materials
In the application materials for the Hong Kong talent scheme, many are used to prove whether your scoring meets the standards.

For example, if you state in your application that you are an outstanding talent, mere words are not enough; the immigration department certainly hopes you can provide materials to prove you are a talent. Many people are unable to provide their work certificates, management certificates, awards, patents, etc., and the immigration department cannot determine whether you are the type of talent needed in Hong Kong.

If your work materials are not sufficiently prepared, the risk of rejection is relatively high.

3. The importance of talent scheme renewal
Many applicants are hesitating whether to apply for the Hong Kong talent scheme, actually worrying about the renewal.

The renewal of the Hong Kong talent scheme is case by case; there is no clear requirement that applicants must reside in Hong Kong for a certain number of days or that they must work in Hong Kong.

Compared to other immigration plans like the skilled worker scheme, the renewal of the Hong Kong talent scheme is relatively flexible. However, flexibility does not mean it is easy to renew; the first three years after approval are just the beginning, and the following five years are crucial. To obtain permanent residency in Hong Kong, applicants need to have the resources and ability for renewal. Processing Hong Kong identity can cost tens of thousands, but the proof of residence and work needed for renewal will still require a certain amount of money.
