Welfare for Hong Kong Residents in the Mainland - Education Sector

1. Directly enroll in public schools in the Greater Bay Area

Previously, children of Hong Kong residents could not enroll in public schools in mainland China due to the lack of a mainland household registration. If they wanted to study in mainland China, they could only choose expensive private schools and could not participate in the mainland's entrance exams such as the Zhongkao and Gaokao. According to the latest regulations, children of Hong Kong residents working in the Greater Bay Area can enroll in public schools in mainland China, participate in the Zhongkao, enter high school, and enjoy the same educational resources as mainland students.

2. Participate in the HKDSE exam and easily gain admission to prestigious schools

Candidates with Hong Kong permanent residency can directly enroll in 127 universities in mainland China (including prestigious schools like Tsinghua, Peking University, Fudan, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University) through the "Non-Examination Admission Program" based on their HKDSE results. Compared to mainland candidates, Hong Kong students generally find it easier to gain admission.

3. Participate in the Overseas Chinese Students Joint Examination and avoid the Gaokao

Students with Hong Kong identity can attend any prestigious school in the country through the Overseas Chinese Students Joint Examination. The exam difficulty of the Overseas Chinese Students Joint Examination is lower than that of the Gaokao, and due to the smaller number of applicants, the competition pressure is also very low, providing a significant advantage in admission scores.

4. Generous scholarships

The scholarship quotas and amounts for Hong Kong, Macau, and overseas Chinese students studying in mainland universities ensure that the proportion of award-winning students is no less than 30%. There are 6,170 scholarship quotas for Hong Kong, Macau, and overseas Chinese students. In addition, students with Hong Kong identity have four levels of scholarships at each educational level, namely special award, first prize, second prize, and third prize.
