In 2022, a total of 39,000 DSE candidates applied for the JUPAS joint entrance examination for Hong Kong universities, while the three major universities in Hong Kong admitted 8,000 students. This means that 20% of DSE candidates can be admitted to the three major universities in Hong Kong, which is much higher than the admission rate of mainland China's 985 universities.

The eight major universities in Hong Kong have relatively low admission scores for local students. This year, the minimum admission score for most programs at the eight major universities is [332233]. Recently, the eight major universities have also implemented a flexible admission score plan, meaning that even if a candidate does not meet the minimum score requirement in one subject, they may still be admitted. For example, scoring only 2 points in English still provides a chance to enter a major university. This is a significant advantage for candidates who have subject weaknesses or perform poorly in exams.
