1. Scores
Although the success of the talent application is not ultimately determined by scores, scores are the most intuitive evaluation of talent applicants. It is not difficult to reach the passing line of 80 points for talent, but the probability of passing with 80 points is relatively low.

As far as I know, at this stage, most talent applicants' scores are concentrated around 130 points, and exceeding 150 points is considered a high score. The higher the score, the faster the approval speed and the greater the probability of approval. However, this does not mean that applicants with scores of 80, 90, or 100 have no chance.

Since the Immigration Department has set the threshold for the talent application score under the "comprehensive scoring system" at 80 points, it must have considered that some applicants may have lower application scores but actually possess outstanding professional skills, and they do not want to miss out on such talents. Therefore, friends with lower application scores need not be discouraged. In this case, what we should do is to improve our application approval rate through various methods, such as conducting professional assessments to avoid missing out on some actual obtainable scores; enhancing personal background conditions within feasible limits; and highlighting strengths while downplaying weaknesses during the application process.

2. Schools
It is very advantageous for talent applicants to have studied at a global Top 100 university. If your undergraduate, master's, or doctoral degree is from a global Top 100 institution, you can earn an additional 30 points for your education. Talents with degrees from global Top 100 universities are very attractive to Hong Kong.

3. Overseas Work Experience
As an international metropolis, Hong Kong serves as a bridge between the mainland and overseas, and it is very favorable towards talents with overseas work experience. Having more than 2 years of work experience in other countries can earn an additional 15 points.
 

4. Talent List Industries
The total score for talent has increased from 195 points to 225 points mainly due to the talent list. The talent list clearly identifies the talents needed in Hong Kong, which are the target industries for talent. Friends intending to apply for talent can pay more attention to the talent list and try to position themselves in the industries listed.

5. Professional Relevance
It is very important whether the applicant's major and work experience are in demand in Hong Kong. Although talents in the industries listed on the talent list are more favored by the Hong Kong government, individuals from other industries will not be rejected by the Hong Kong Immigration Department simply because they are not on the talent list.

There is a saying that the evaluation of Hong Kong's talent is more focused on the relevance of the profession than on the score. In other words, if the score difference is not very large (within 20 points), and if your profession aligns with Hong Kong's scarce industries, which are more needed by Hong Kong, then your advantage is even greater.
