How to apply:

Eligible individuals can submit applications through the website or App from areas outside Hong Kong.

You can authorize a guarantor/representative in Hong Kong to apply for an extension of stay in the current manner.

Non-permanent residents outside Hong Kong need to fill out a specific form to submit an extension application, namely the ID92 form.

What kind of visa will be obtained after applying?

Applicants whose stay endorsement is approved can download the "electronic visa" for extending their stay after paying the fee according to the guidelines. It is understood that the "electronic visa" obtained through the new policy will not specify a return limit to Hong Kong, meaning that non-permanent residents who are temporarily outside Hong Kong and have no plans to return can avoid the need to activate their entry upon obtaining the visa, thus saving the hassle of quarantine when traveling back and forth between the mainland and Hong Kong.

It is understood that there are transitional arrangements for the conversion from the old policy to the new policy, which also includes individuals who applied for a visa before April 7.

Situation 1:

What should non-permanent residents do if they have submitted a return application according to the old temporary arrangement and it has been approved?

A.Have received an entry visa/permit but did not return to Hong Kong within the validity period of that visa/permit (i.e., the entry visa/permit has expired).

B.Have received an entry visa/permit, and the validity period of that visa has not yet expired. Such individuals can use that visa to return to Hong Kong within its validity period.

C.Have not yet received an entry visa/permit.

The above non-permanent residents can use the dedicated form (ID 92) to apply to the Immigration Department for an extension of stay. If the application is approved, the applicant can download the "electronic visa" for extending their stay after paying the fee.

Situation 2:

Non-permanent residents have submitted a return application according to the old temporary arrangement, and the application is still being processed (i.e., as of April 7, 2022, no notification of the application result has been received from the Immigration Department).

Applicants do not need to resubmit their applications; the Immigration Department will process the applications according to the new measures.

Situation 3:

Eligible non-permanent residents who have not submitted a return application.

Eligible non-permanent residents can apply for an extension of stay according to the new measures. Such applicants need to submit their applications following the general process for extending stay and do not apply using the (ID 92) form.
