Recently, the Hong Kong government released the latest salary survey report, which includes income comparisons across all age groups in Hong Kong, as well as the median monthly salary that everyone is very concerned about, and which industries have the highest income.
The median income in Hong Kong is 20,000 HKD, note that this is the median, not the average.
This means that half of the people in Hong Kong earn more than 20K per month. The average can easily be influenced by the highest incomes, while the median better reflects the actual situation. For example, in Shanghai, the average salary in 2021 was 11,226 RMB, but the median was only 6,378 RMB. By this calculation, the median income in Hong Kong is about three times that of Shanghai.
How to find a job in Hong Kong?
1. JobsDB
When looking for a job in Hong Kong, the first recruitment website that most people encounter is JobsDB. It is currently the largest recruitment website in Hong Kong, providing over 120,000 job positions each month, with more than 150,000 companies recruiting talent through JobsDB.
As the most frequently used recruitment platform in Hong Kong, JobsDB's advantage is that the job information published is very comprehensive and covers almost all industries. Moreover, the job postings on the website are clearly categorized by industry and function, and automatic job alerts can be set up.
2. eFinancialCareers
eFinancialCareers is a job search website for the financial industry, offering employment opportunities from companies around the world, covering various positions in the banking and finance sectors. In simple terms, it has two main characteristics: high-end and specialized, targeting only the financial industry.
Since the positions are relatively high-end, the requirements are naturally high as well. Many entry-level friends have expressed that after reading those requirements, they feel it’s even harder to find a job... Most positions require several years of relevant work experience, as their goal is to help companies find the most qualified financial professionals. Therefore, it is more suitable for job seekers with work experience.
3. jijis
jijis (https://www.jijis.org.hk/) is also the only job search website in Hong Kong that is open only to students!
Jijis stands for Joint Institutions Job Information System, which is a job information database for Hong Kong's joint universities. Since it is aimed at students, mostly fresh graduates, the positions on jijis are mainly for fresh graduates and internships, making it the most relevant job search website.
However, its drawback is: you must be a student! And an undergraduate! Registration and login require a student ID and password. This limits a large number of job-seeking friends in Hong Kong, as most people are studying taught master's programs. However, everyone can try borrowing a friend's account that can log in, and some have been continuously applying to the school to gain this right. Additionally, everyone should be cautious of some intermediary agencies that "mix in" to collect resumes.
